Questions and answers
The questions homeowners in Mundelein ask us most often, with straight answers.
Is the roof inspection really free?
Yes. The inspection, the photos and the written estimate cost nothing, and you are not obliged to book anything.
Repair or replace: how do you decide?
A roof with one leak at a chimney, a vent or a wall is usually a repair. A roof where shingles are curling, losing granules or cracking across several slopes, or that has hail damage on most of its faces, is usually a replacement. We show you photos of what we found and explain which it is.
How long does a roof replacement take?
The work on the roof takes one or two working days for most single-family houses. Steep roofs, several layers to remove, a lot of rotten deck or rain can add days. Before that day comes, we get the permit and order the materials, so the whole process from signed estimate to finished roof takes longer. We tell you the planned dates when the job is booked.
How long does an estimate take?
We usually measure and photograph the roof at the inspection and send the written estimate after that. If a roof needs a closer look in the attic, it can take longer.
What is a roofing square?
A square is 100 square feet of roof surface. Shingles are sold in bundles, usually three to a square. The squares estimate on the home page works out a rough size from the house footprint and the pitch.
Why does the ice barrier matter so much here?
In winter, snow melts on the warm part of the roof and refreezes at the cold eaves. The ice dam holds back water that then runs uphill under the shingles. The self-adhering ice barrier at the eaves seals around the nails so that water cannot reach the deck.
Do you need a permit for a new roof?
Villages in Lake County set their own permit rules for roofing and siding. We check what your village requires and arrange the permit before the work starts.
Can you help with my insurance claim?
We help with everything on the roofing side. We document storm damage with photos and measurements, write a code-compliant replacement-cost estimate you can send to your insurance company, and answer the adjuster's questions about the damage on site. Illinois law leaves negotiating the claim to you or a licensed public adjuster, so that part is not done by a roofing company.
Can you replace a roof in winter?
Yes, on dry days above freezing. Some shingle sealants need warm weather to bond, so tabs on a winter roof may be hand-sealed.
What hours are you open?
Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
