Siding in Mundelein and Lake County
New vinyl or fiber cement siding over a house wrap, with flashed windows and doors, and repairs to siding cracked or dented by hail and wind.

What goes under the siding
The siding is the outer layer. Behind it, a house wrap sheds any water that gets past the panels, and every window and door gets flashing tape lapped so water runs out, not in. Where a roof meets a wall, step flashing goes under the siding and a kick-out sends water into the gutter.

Materials
Vinyl siding comes in lap and shake profiles and many colors, with matching trim. Fiber cement is cement and wood fiber pressed into boards. It is installed with blind nailing and gaps at the trim as its manufacturer specifies, and painted.
Repairs after a storm
Hail cracks and holes vinyl, and wind can pull whole panels off a wall. Damaged panels can be replaced one by one when a matching color is still made. When it is not, the whole wall is usually redone so the color is even.

Questions about siding
Vinyl or fiber cement?
Vinyl costs less, never needs paint and is light to work with. Fiber cement is heavier, holds a sharper profile, resists fire and can be painted any color, but it needs repainting over the years. Both last decades when installed with proper flashing.
Do you replace siding and the roof at the same time?
We can, and it helps where the two meet. Step flashing at roof-to-wall joints sits under the siding, so doing both together means the flashing can be replaced without cutting siding twice.
